Installation - Junction Box Conduit Cutouts

The 40a, Dual NEMA 14-50 Receptacle Kit supports up to two outlets. There are 2 cutouts for the wiring conduits pre-drilled in the junction box: the 1in hole on the top of the enclosure for the EVCC wires, and the 3/4in hole on the left side for the left wing wire conduit. If two receptacles will be used, the right side 3/4in cutout will need to be drilled for the right wing wire conduit. In addition, the bottom cutout for the source power will need to be cut out to either 3/4in or 1in depending on if one or two receptacles will be installed.

Convenient cutout guides are supplied on the contactor junction box to simplify the measurements required for each hole.

Follow These Steps

Follow the steps below to drill the needed cutouts in the Receptacle Kit contactor junction box. You will need the Receptacle Kit contactor junction box, a power drill, and a 1in step drill bit.
1
This guide allows you to easily drill out the hole in a precise manner according to the specifications of the conduit connector diameter being used (not included).

Notice the cutout guide on the bottom (longer edge) of the junction box enclosure. Ensure the diameter for the conduit connector being used fits a 3/4in or 1in hole before proceeding.
2
This step provides instructions for drilling the appropriate diameter hole for the source power wires (3 x 8AWG per receptacle).

If you're using only one receptacle, a 3/4in conduit and fitting is recommended for the source power wiring. If both receptacles are being used, a 1in conduit and fitting is more suitable.

Position the drill using the step-bit directly over the cross-hairs of the cutout guide. Drill out the hole to the appropriate diameter as described above.
3
If a 2nd receptacle is being installed, repeat step two above on the right side of the junction box. Be sure to use the 3/4in cutout guide as the right wing wire whip uses a 3/4in diameter conduit.
